Child's Play, or why I hate the news.
I don't know how many people heard about it, but Child's Play was this amazing charity thing set up by the biggest online comic, Penny-Arcade. They got fed up with all the bad press from the media about video games horribly warping people, so they decided to show what gamers can really do. For christmas, they set up a wish list on Amazon, and in just under a month, they raised over $175,000 in toys and $27,000 in cash for the Seattle Children's Hospital. Everything was completely for charity. They even got volunteers to come and load/unload the toys.
And what really pisses me off after all of it? The local Seattle News people came, even with a camera crew, but only at the very beginning. They completely screwed up the story. They left out the name of one of the two owners of the strip and leader of the drive, said that they only raised $1,000, and that they gave it to some Catholic school. It was a complete travesty. These people go out and really make a difference, and the news barely pays them more attention than to completely downplay and screw them over. Well, I know, and every major gamer online should know by now. I hate the news.
