I think I'm rather glad that I got to write about this before I saw what anyone else thought about tonight's episode. Although, truth be told, I honestly don't know how many people out there actually watch it regularly. Maybe I'm just not looking in the correct places, but it seems to me that Tru is one of those shows that are rather soft spoken in its watcher base. I'll bet it's because there aren't any conflicts in ships. The loudest speakers for shows tend to be those who care for one particular pairing over another. Which is rather nice that it hasn't really occurred on this show. It's not all about love triangles, which in of itself is rather refreshing I think.
But anyway, I liked tonight's episode. But I get the feeling that it may or may not be so popular with everyone. There was just things about it that I really liked, but could also see where people in a different mindset might think it was stupid or overplayed, or perhaps even underplayed. Partly, in fact, I rather like it because it wasn't how you expected people to react, which is exactly how real people tend to surprise you. There were moments with Jack, or quite a few scenes involving Tru, either with her father, or more particularly the killer, seemed rather odd. But I really liked the awkwardness. With Jack the second time around, I can totally see someone being like that for real.
I think though, the parts with Tru were the ones I love the most. I mean sure, I guessed pretty early on that the dad had had his wife killed, but it was in how Tru kept reacting to it all that had me so entranced. She was all over the place at times, and at the most dramatic moments, so very oddly calm. Like when she met the guy she who killed her mother. It was almost comical how when she finally meets the guy, she's not especially scared, nor particularly outraged. She's stunned, but also completely, I don't even know how to describe it, but those moments, they seemed the most real to me. She simply could not figure out what was going on, couldn't figure out what to do, and her mother's death came rolling all right back into her. And Eliza just got it all out so perfectly for me. I could feel the hurt, could feel the confusion, and all throughout, I just felt really connected. She wasn't very intelligent to go running out after the killer, but that's the thing about it, it wasn't even the usual "stupid heroine runs out", it was more her not thinking and just running on the need to know. I don't expect particularly good recap love on this episode, but who knows. All I know is that this episode just really worked for me. All the characters seemed real, and flawed, and awesome. And I hope whoever wrote it keeps writing more, and the actors all get more chances like this to really shine.
