Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?
Jun. 9th, 2003 03:15 pmSo I was randomly flipping through the few meager channels I have yesterday, when I came upon channel 3. For those not in the know, probably everyone, my channel 3 is a local thing that mostly shows school schedules and lunch menus, but when it isn't doing that, it's a bunch of recordings or artistic things, mainly ballets and orchestral things.
Anyway, I flipped to channel 3, and what did I see but this really cool orchestra playing some awesome song that involved a lot of backed up solos by some woman with a cello. It's always quite moving to hear an orchestra playing; there's nothing quite like it. My only problem was that in watching the musicians, I couldn't stand the way they looked. They all looked stuffy and stuffed shirt and all that, and then it ocurred to me what the coolest thing in the world would be: A Bum Orchestra.
Can you just imagine it? I can see it now, a whole alley full of hobos and scraggly bums, playing moonlight sonata by beethoven or something. There would be something so magical and poignant about a huge bunch of bums playing something so beautiful. It even got me wondering how one would go about getting bums to do such a thing. It ocurred to me that if one were rich, one could pay them all large amounts of money to play instruments you give them, and being bums with lots of time to practice, they could learn easily. Another, maybe even cooler, way would be to just give them instruments and have them learn by themselves. And then it could catch on, and you could have bum orchestras all over the country, with beautiful music playing from every alleyway. Like having one big soundtrack for the world. Keen.
