First things first, I thought the new GG last night was great, and I can only hope for equal goodness for tonight's Smallville and Angel.

On a completely different note, I can't stop laughing since I heard that song again. I don't know who sings it, or really the title, which really helps no one. It's almost likea children's song. "We can be, what we really want to be, if we work hard at it...blah blah blah." Now, I think it's a cool song and all, but the message is for black kids to succeed because they used to be kings of africa and such before being dragged here. Now, it always cracks my shit up when people talk like that. Granted, lineage can be important at times, but there are several fundamental flaws with this line of thinking. First, I rather doubt very many people can trace their lineage back to a kinf of africa, and even if they could, I doubt many kings were more than simple village chiefs. Secondly, and much more funny, although in a tragic way, is that many slaves brought to the americas were acquired by the slave traders getting slaves from other african tribes. They set up deals where certain tribes would go out and capture other tribes for the traders. In essence, many slaves were simply bought by traders, rather than captured by them. It doesn't make it any better, but it is rather funny when I hear a song that makes it seem as if the entire race of africans was so pure, and all anybody needs is to recapture the essense. I realize that such songs are meant to bolster morale, so to speak, but still, it just seems kind of funny to me. Just a thought.

Me!
