Dec. 18th, 2004 11:59 amUgh. I'm finding the state of things lately a bit, well, off. Way off. In this instance, I'm talking, but not directly, about the whole separation of church and state deal. And not just here. It exists in other countries as well. The issue I have comes into being at the moment due to France, although there are similar things here. Anyway, there was a christmas tree in Paris that got taken down because some people complained that it was a "religious" thing and violated church and state crap. Officials ended up putting it back up though, as they said that the tree had pagan origins, which it did, but being pagan, was not a religious thing. I guess my problem is not so much about the origins of the tree, as there are many things that start one way and can be used for another purpose entirely. Rather, my problem is that only christian things seem to be considered "religious" any more.
I mean, I know that christianity is the only true way, but it's hardly the only religion. And yet, people only seem to have a problem when something christian related is being done. I for one, have never once heard a snit about anything to do with Hanukkah, and that's a pretty well known thing. This whole thing about the tree being pagan though, that's religious in manner. I mean, using trees was a druid thing, and most definitely had religious purposes, so how is it that it being a religion other than christianity makes it okay? *grumbles*
