Day After Tomorrow, take 2
Jan. 30th, 2005 05:43 pmWe rented The Day After Tomorrow for our friday night movie this past week, and I must say, I still quite like it. All the heavy handed crap about how it's all our fault, and bad America causes global warming, blah blah blah, all that aside, it's a really fun movie to watch. I can ignore the bad science (well, the rapidity of things occuring is crap, but the melting ice caps screwing with the currents and inevitably all weather on earth is fairly accurate), and with such things out of the way, the plot is interesting, and the characters are all quite keen. Especially Emmy Rossum, who is so darn tasty that it's not even funny. I love the grand sweep of things happening, and I can't help but find myself laughing through the thing, mostly due to all the comments such a movie inevitably invites. Granted, most are a sort of morbid humor, but who cares? Certainly not all those people-sickles. Good times.
Of course, the funniest moment was when I said that if they ever ran out of food they could always eat each other, which led to a joke about calling the Donner party for a ready table. Which, while not all that funny by itself, certainly leads to, "Donner, party of 12! Pardon, party of 11! Your table is ready! My mistake, party of 10! Wait, 9 now?" And so on. It's a good thing my family shares in my sense of humor, or I'd be getting the weirdest looks...
