Sometimes a phrase or saying will stick with you, and from that point on, you find your life veering more to fit that saying. Certain quotes or verses can become our life mottoes, or at least influence us during the times when we need them. And then there are sayings that don't necessarily moderate your life, but can change how you say or see things. I've been thinking about this recently, and have been trying to figure out which ones that I have. I noticed one the other day when I said it in a discussion-- just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. Probably the best quote that ever came from Jurassic Park. Though, I think that's more a line that I see should be in place in the world, rather than something that leads me around by the nose.

Likewise, something that Paul said in one of his many letters got to me. 1 Corinthians I think it was.
"But instead, one brother goes to law against another—and this in front of unbelievers! The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers."
It's that part about why not rather be wronged that continues to stick with me. Part of being a believer means that we should forgive and not try to get back at people, even if we have a legitimate wrong. It's not our place for vengeance or getting what we're owed. It's much more important than that, and every time I think about something bad happening to me, that quote comes to mind. Why not rather be wronged? I find it so very poignant.

Another one I find terribly hard to accomplish, which is why it's so important to me is part of a psalm.
"Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him."
Most scripture takes me a good week or two to memorize, but that one stuck in my mind the moment I read it, and it has the tenacious ability to stay there, popping up from time to time.

I'm not sure why I've been thinking about this sort of thing, but I am intrigued nonetheless.

New Comic.

It's always infinitely fun to find a new webcomic that's any good. I've recently discovered Sam and Fuzzy and I have to say I am now hooked. The massive amounts of black in the art style was a little off-putting at first, but now that I've gotten used to it I can enjoy it all. Really though, the best part of finding a new comic is getting to read through all the archive. In about two or three days I read all 500 strips from the beginning. I've come to really love that psychotic little bear. He kind of reminds me of Calvin but with less restraint and more opportunity to actually inflict damage. "What can Fuzzy do that I can't?" "Well, there's always...no, no, that's not fair." "What?" "Just because I've never seen you go through a busload of nuns with a chainsaw doesn't mean you haven't."

Good times.
