It just occurred to me, as I was reading an rpg review, that there is a common plotline found in many fantasy books, rpgs, and even the occasional tv show, which is the amnesiac with amazing gifts that has to go search for his or her missing past. I'm not disparaging the idea by any means; it is in the unique details of each story that makes the same plot awesome and different each time. However, it just struck me how cool, or at least interesting, it would be if said hero's powers were a direct result of the lost memories. In essence, it would mean the hero would lose his powers and abilities as soon as he recovered himself. The reasons for this could be done in varied ways as well, but I think it's a really spiffy idea. I can even see a repeating arc where the hero gains his memories, loses his powers, and through whatever method, decides to forget it all over again. Now the trick is to try and disseminate the idea enough so that a decent enough writer of some sort decides to use it.
