Initial ipod thoughts.
Feb. 22nd, 2008 05:41 pmHaving now purchased a cover for my little bouncing hole in my pocket where the money used to go, I have now successfully taken my little 80 gigger for a day in the life. The first thing I noticed, aside from the rip-off that is the price of an ipod cover ($30!), was the buyer's remorse at having gotten the cool looking cover at the expense of clear visibility of the screen. I originally wanted this one, but I couldn't commit to $30. Target had them for $25, but they only carried the silver, and I bought a black ipod and wanted a black cover. I also chickened out of asking if circuit city would price match. Anyway, I went with this beaut, which is actually a bit blacker than it looks, which is cool. Malheureusement, the one way glass look really degrades the bright and pretty screen. It being able to play videos and all, this is a bit of nuisance, not to mention the screen disappears completely when the backlight goes off. Hence the remorse. But it still looks cool.
The other thing I noticed is that the retarded little earbuds won't stay lodged in my right ear. Little bugger just keeps falling out at bad moments. I'm probably going to switch over to regular headphones soon. Also, I had always heard that the ipod didn't really skip much, particularly compared with cd players, even though it has a hard drive inside. Big lie. I tried walking with it in my pants pocket, and it skipped a number of times. It also didn't help any that I had only half plugged in the earbuds, causing much more erratic listening. But we'll ignore my general stupidity for the time being...
I realized too today that an ipod is really handy if you go a lot of places, or wait for things, or don't have a readily available computer with nice speakers nearby, but I do not, in fact, do much of any of those things. Ah well. It's still a very cool device to have. Besides, a major reason I wanted one was in order to share (force) my tastes with other people. They're really good for that.
