The current and presiding state of our airlines has really got me thinking just how stupid we all are. I don't know when it occurred, but somewhere along the line, we became a country of people who are completely incapable of sacrificing, particularly unnecessary conveniences, for the sake of our, and everyone's, good. For years the major airlines have been struggling financially. Granted, expenses grow, but ticket prices have been moderately cheap, all things considered. And now Frontier Airlines has filed for chapter 11, and they act like nothing is going to change. That seems a highly ridiculous and foolish way to act. Not one airline has thought to raise prices enough to compensate. Now, I like have cheap and swift access to pretty much anywhere in the country, but for most of us, such travel is luxury, not necessity. For a very long time, flying was reserved for very special occasions, or people simply drove.

My guess is that none of the airlines have jacked up their prices because there would be huge consumer outcry, and probably lawsuits. The current financial state of the airlines pretty much shows that the current cheap model of readily available transport is not working. I love being able to fly to another state in an afternoon, as I am planning to do in August when I fly up to Seattle for PAX, but I must admit that it is a luxury. If I could not afford it (thank you free air points), I would drive. If I could not drive, then I would not go. People don't seem to understand anymore the matter of priorities and sacrifice. I mean, heck, during WW2, people rationed everything. They rationed gas, goods, even silverware. Can you imagine anyone doing that now? What was the saying? Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without?

I realize I'm a little all over the place on this one, but it's a random thought and I'm tired, so bear with me. Unless you're Colbert. He never "bears" with anything. Now there's a man.

Me!
