Alice in Wonderland disappointed
Mar. 13th, 2010 04:02 pmAt least, I was disappointed by it. It's an okay film, but I don't know how the heck Tim Burton managed to screw up the insanity that is Wonderland. If you think about it, Wonderland is all about utter nonsense without any sense of self-awareness among any of the characters other than Alice. And Burton should have been perfect for the job. He's a master of making dark movies with lots of whimsy and humor. Somehow though, the new Alice in Wonderland seems to lack almost all of the whimsy and humor. True, wonderland has become a darker place in the years since Alice was a little girl, but this new wonderland is way too self-aware. I don't mind things having gotten darker, and even a little bit more grim, but without true, unaware madness, where's the fun?
I do, however, wholly endorse the Cheshire Cat, particularly for the look. The cat is absolutely amazing to watch, and so much fun. Sadly, there's not much else that would make me want to really see it again.
