So yesterday was interesting. Spent several hours in the ER. I was at work yesterday morning, minding my own business, feeling like I had a popcorn flake stuck under my upper lip. Yeah, not so much. I suddenly noticed that my upper left lip was starting to swell. Within about 15 minutes it had swollen considerably, like a big fat lip. I could actually feel it swelling. Needless to say it was worrying. I've never had such a reaction to anything in my life, but it was obviously some kind of allergic reaction, and such things on the face can be dangerous, I rushed out of work and drove to a nearby urgent care room. Missed my exit on the highway and had to double back to get there, but got there okay. Only, it turns out that the California health insurance I have only allows my assigned doctor's office to take me, and mine is a walk-in clinic at least 15 minutes away and I don't know if they do potential emergency situations. So urgent care couldn't take me and I wasted several minutes there, then went down the street to the nearby hospital ER.
Man, the ER wait times are loooong. My swelling, thankfully, after the initial burst, only continued at a very slow pace. Though I was told that I was flushed and it did start spreading through my sinuses on my left side. But slowly. Anyway, it probably took 15-20 minutes before they took my vitals, asked me a few questions, peeked at my lip, poked it with a needle to see if what turned out to be a scar was anything. Then they sent me back to the waiting room for another ~2 hours until they could give me some steroids and a shot of Benedryl (in my butt of all places). Then it was back into the waiting room for little bit, before getting released.
Anyway, got home, got tired, swelling went down, and I went to sleep for a while. Weird as crap, and I still have no idea whatsoever as to what caused the reaction.
