There's this girl I know, whose whole family is a good friend of mine's. In the last year or so, she's been dating/living with this guy who has been raised his whole life in the new age home, been brought up as one. His mom is a witch even, and I don't mean in the pejorative sense, I mean that she's into all that stuff, does Wicca and all sorts of stuff they like to do.
Anyway, it's really quite disturbing to just sit and watch this guy who always talks of peace and love and whatever else the new age is supposed to be about. The thing is, the way it seems to work is that he never shows his anger in any way; he represses something fierce, and I gather that's the way they go about being "peaceful." Repress is the word of the day. It doesn't involve actually making yourself a nicer, more loving person, it just means repressing everything remotely unsavory. And it's taking a toll on both him, and the girl I know. The thing is, if you ever just sit and talk with the guy for any amount of time, you'll notice something about his eyes - they're nothing but rage. And I mean serious, want to kill you all kind of rage. If you've ever pissed off someone to the point of them having that look where you know they want to kill you or put you in the hospital they're so mad, then you know what I'm talking about. This guy has never been allowed to show his anger, so it's just built up inside himself. I saw him talking to my grandma, just about nothing, and he had the look even then. It's always there, and frankly, it's kind of scary.
And at times, the girl is even more noticeable about it all, even though she hasn't been with him very long. She has emotional issues that come out in bursts at times, and they've gotten a lot worse since being with this guy. Around him she has to act all at peace too, and represses it all down until she goes to her mom's house and completely flips out.
But it all gets me wondering. How many people out there, how many people are into New Age stuff, and like stuff, who are touting peace and love, but secretly being so full of rage that they hate everyone? And more importantly, how does it affect their actions if they do anything openly?
Just a thought. Obviously not everyone is going to be like that, and probably people who choose it and come to it later will have a better way of venting, but it's still a valid thought.
