This and that, this and that.
Apr. 21st, 2004 10:48 pm~Now it's time to sit and chat. About this, about that, it's this and that with Rusty!
I'm really not all that sure about this week that I'm having. I can't decide if it's good, bad, or likely, merely meh. It's mostly a mixed bag I think.
First of all, on a whim, I tried signing up for the very last few days of the City of Heroes beta. It's a mmorpg, but it's basically like a big comic book. Everyone picks one of like 5 or 6 "origins", like mutation, science, technology, magic, etc. for the source of powers. Then, one chooses one of like 5 types. Basically, close up fighter, tank, blaster, etc. Then comes the coolest part ever. You get to build your hero from the ground up. Two costume colors, various skin colors, and a complete ass-load of various suit types. There's even a randomizer button that will create a completely random costume type, but color coordinates it and everything. So awesome.
I've gotten about halfway through the Chronicles of Narnia this week too. I absolutely adore these books, and one can't help but get something new every time one reads them again. I love how amazingly Lewis can pack in these epic stories into only like 200 pages or so.
School, however, is not going all that keen. My last CS quiz for Dr I, he hadned them all back with an example of what we all should have done, then had us grade them ourselves. I got a 4.5 out of 10, and that may have been fudging a half point or two. *faceplants* Not to mention how many freaking programs I have to do for his class. If you count the compress/decompress as the two they really are, I now have 4 freaking programs to do in the next two weeks. *shakes fist*
Interesting day I had at school today as well. Mostly because I stayed up hours later than I usually do finishing off The Horse and His Boy and got not nearly enough sleep. So I mostly just sort of dazed my way through my classes. Although I do remember stabbing Bob in the leg with my pencil for being a dick, and even that didn't stop him. I told you Bob, no more verbal stabbings or you'd get a real one. Of course, I didn't mean to do it so hard, but I warned you.
Anyway, we watched a video on protestantism in sociology class today. We're in the religion chapter, so that's what we got. I don't really understand why all the videos we inevitably end up watching in school are from the 80's but they are. Anyway, it was very interesting, and I liked the british guy who was the host. He wasn't religious himself, but he came at it all very cooly. Simply stated the facts, and observed things logically. The first group he showed were the fundamentalists, which was mostly cool, although at times corny. Then he went on to some of the more mainline churches and protestent denominations. Interestingly enough, he noted that the emptying of the older type denominational churches because they seemed to be blending with the culture, accepting, and the churches that were gaining in people were the ones who to an extent rejected the world. And it was so clear to see the diffence. One fundamentalist explained our job to be throwing a line to people drowning in the water, whereas the older mainline churches have become social groups, with the members acting no differently than any person trying to "better" mankind, without actually helping anyone. He said that not one in a particular example would dare think of asking people if they were born again or not. Very interesting.
Had a pretty keen college life tonight. It was small again, with only five us for a good 45 minutes before some others started showing up, plus both guitar players backed out for choir, so we all ended up just sitting around talking, and getting some coffee. It's really nice to have friends to just hang out with. I'm still rather put out that Maria has a boyfriend that she really rather likes, as tonight was jsut another example of how much fun it is to just hang out with her, but it is as it is. I don't often find people I just click with when talking to, but she's a little odd in the same way I am, so it's fun. But anyway, fun night.
