Jeepers creepers
May. 29th, 2004 05:12 pmCheck out all those peepers.
Ugh, my computer is causing me no end of headaches and the like. I've had to reformat the bastard so many times I've lost count now. I've had my brother's computer to fall back on for email and the like, but it's just not the same as having one's own to use. After all this reformatting, including a few failed attempts at getting the supposedly better XP to install, I've concluded that there is some sort of important hardware fault in play that continues to haunt my various workings. I've narrowed it down, based on the various and lovingly immense exceptions and errors that keep popping up, to one of three things, and if I'm really unlucky, more than one. I've concluded that either my RAM has gone bad, my video card has crapped out somewhat, or my AMD CPU/motherboard has some problems. Apparently AMD has a reputation for not only having their processors run way too hot (my luck, the 1400s are especially prone to overheating) and also their L1 cache can crap out far to easily. Some sort of design flaw I suppose. Unfortunately, I've yet to figure out how to turn off the L1 cache in the BIOS so I can check for that particular problem.
Of course, even if I ever do find the culprit that seems to enjoy flashing sudden brilliant shimmerings of blue (personally, I'm kind of hoping that it turns out to be blue screen of death gremlins, because it seems to me that removing mythical creatures requires much less money), it requires money I do not have to fix. Ah, the joys everlasting of computer ownership. I think we're all sick in the head to do this, but I'm way to dependent on my computer to change anything now.
