I've never understood the big deal about valentine's day, and that's both for and against it. I don't particularly think it's too terribly romantic for starters. It's so scripted really. And as for being against it, who cares? Granted, I'd very much like someone to spend time with today, but that's true of every day, so why does one day full of pink and red hearts make it any worse or better? If anything, I almost feel better today because of the relief of not being expected to be romantic on command by anyone. Plus, I rather enjoy being contrarian and cynical, so the fact that I'm supposed to hate it or love it makes me quite indifferent to it. Yay me.

Also, I always get sweets from the folks, so it's not like I'm missing out on the sugar.

The way he explains this book, I really want to read it now, along with a half dozen other books Orson Scott Card has recommended in the past.

"...But when it comes to human beings, the only type of cause that matters is final cause, the purpose. What a person had in mind. Once you understand what people really want, you can't hate them anymore. You can fear them, but you can't hate them, because you can always find the same desires in your own heart."

OSC knows how to write, that's for sure.
