Apr. 9th, 2010 02:21 amThe result is a tax system that exempts almost half the country from paying for programs that benefit everyone, including national defense, public safety, infrastructure and education. It is a system in which the top 10 percent of earners -- households making an average of $366,400 in 2006 -- paid about 73 percent of the income taxes collected by the federal government.
I must preface this by saying that I have never been wealthy, and can sometimes fit into the category of those getting something for nothing, but that does not lessen my distinct dislike of treating people unfairly. I get so sick of systems that treat the wealthy as deserving to foot the bill for all the rest of us. Dammit, we should have a flat percentage across the board. You make X amount, you pay 10-15% of X, period. It is not fair to mistreat anyone, be they poor or rich, and I definitely will not stand for anyone so being mistreated, regardless of whether it would benefit me to do so or not.
