Okay, this is just the broadsword that shattered the camel's back into a million billion pieces of marrow and guts and oozing blood...well, maybe not, but I'm still a bit peeved here.
It's video games you see. It's just another damn 20 minute special on dateline about the horrors of games and how the poor, innocent puppy-children are being exposed to the hideous demented evils by being able to purchase mature games at too young an age. Okay, I can agree with the need to somewhat censor what children see at the age of ten or around about there, but the media frenzy of those stupid...people! is just rediculous. So what if a 14 or 15 year old gets Grand Theft Auto which is rated for 17 year olds? Hell, aren't kids much younger than that watching R rated movies with the free consent of their parents? I knew kids in grade and middle school who had seen porno movies for crap's sake.
And not only that, but the ratings for video games ARE JUST DAMN SUGGESTIONS PEOPLE!!! I mean, the video stores aren't always that incredibly careful about renting out R rated movies to underage kids, and that's like a law, or very near it. Both R and M ratings are for aged for 17, but I don't see the bastards up in congress "visibly pulling back" from a scene in Saving Private Ryan or anything like that, so why are they demonizing games so badly?
Shows like the Sopranos wins critically damn acclaimed awards for swearing, killing, and watching strippers, while games like GTA: Vice City gets fucking news coverage for being the devil, and it actually has less nudity and swearing. Of course, in the game you get to control the guy and have him beat up anybody you damn well feel like, but it's just A DAMN GAME IDIOTS! What, are you old codgers so damn blind that you can't tell the difference between a badly pixelated hooker with non-removable clothing and a very real stripper on a pole?! Not that I'm dissing the Sopranos or anything, I'm just trying to put things into perspective.
It just peeves me off so much when brainless a-holes make such a big deal about something so very harmless. Okay, so the kid from Columbine played Doom, has no one seen that game? 'cause I see nothing realistic in it that would compell me to go and slaughter a school full of innocent kids, even if some of them were bullies. "Oh, I just shot a computerized image, now I must do as it commands and kill everyone." Shut up already! It was a tragedy, but don't go and blame it on the games, k?! So some of the shooter games attract the more violent people, the tests I've seen have proven through many different age groups that the games cause minimal to no change in aggression levels, except for in girls, and I haven't heard of too many major shootings linked to girls.
So what is the damn problem here? I bet the old fogeys are just mad that they suck at tetris. My mom hasn't ever cared, so why should they? I'm fine, in the not-kill-people way anyhow. Get over it you morons.
