I've been sitting and watching a rather large spider make his way across the wall in front of me, and it has got me thinking. I wonder what it is about spiders that creep us out so. Why do we fear them, and why do they give us the heebies? I mean, I can look at this little guy logically and know that I am hundreds of times his size and can easily squish him, yet I see him waving about his upper legs, and I want squeeze myself into a corner. It's not like ants scare me or really affect me in any way, and many ants are as big as spiders. They can bite just as much as spiders, so what is it about spiders that so unerve me? How odd. I suppose it doesn't help that some of the spiders around here can be of the jumping variety, but still.
