There is a completely different mentality when one does not need money, I have discovered. I have a job sure, but I find my own attitude as compared to everyone else a bit odd and different. Not bad exactly. It's just that, I find that I'm the one who most often raises his hand to go home when they ask if anyone wants to because they have too many people. I think they're even taking to just asking me first. Not having to worry about a lot of various car payments, cell phone payments (though that's just because I don't have one in the first place), food, and housing has given me an interesting outlook on things. Don't get me wrong, I'm not slacking off at work or anything. I work hard and follow the rules, or at least the ones I'm aware of. I'm by nature something of clean freak who likes to wash his hands a lot anyway, so some of their rules are fine by me. Anyway, it's weird to have people say things that totally don't apply to me. Like, this weekend is a holiday weekend, so they're canceling dinner and having shorter lunches and whatnot. Both in email and in person, the boss said that next week we'd be busy, so we could totally work at making up my hours if I needed to. That made me laugh really. I was thrilled not to have so much work this weekend. It's actually rather nice not having to worry about money, though in all honesty, it would have been nice to have been paid for even a little bit of the work I did this month. Money for my own would have been nice.
We get paid once a month, but my paperwork stuff didn't get all filled out right about the middle of the month, which is when the times are restarted. I had like 16 hours worth of work which should have gone on this month's paycheck, but apparently it's going to be rolled over onto the next one. Which means, I'll have a bigger check come July 31, but I get jack in the money department until then. Getting paid monthly kind of blows.
Also, I think my throat is kind of sore from singing all through my lunch shift. That's the nice part about working the dishroom. You can sing, but it's so loud in there that no one can hear you. I can whistle lightly too. But my throat is sore now. Ah well.
