How do you play a losing game?

it's such a shame,
but one must consider
the ultimate aim.
Do you continue to try,
or kill the flame?

What do you do
when the game's half done,
you don't know the rules,
and have just begun?
Do you stay to play
just for the fun?
Or do you turn around
and start to run?

What if there's no
win to be had?
Do you continue to play for
the short time to be glad?
Inevitable defeat can
always be sad,
but not playing at all
is worse for a lad.

The only way to win
is to always try,
and even if in the end
a bit of you may die
and the pain causes
you to cry,
it will be worse to
always wonder why
you didn't even
attempt to try.
