I was thinking while I ate my lunch, all by my lonesome, about what it is about college that levels the playing field. Upperclassmen mingle with Lowerclassmen just as easily as with each other, and all the while people generally treat everyone with at least a modicum of decency. Now, several thoughts have occurred to me, such as how we are all in a new place with complete strangers for the most part, but I don't think that's it. New kids to school growing up rarely get along with everyone, quite the opposite at times. Neither do I believe the reason is because we are more adult or any crap like that.

The thought that occurred to me while I ate was that we've all become homogenized by the time we reach college. Growing up, we all have very different and unique experiences that shape us all differently. We eat different, we have different beliefs, we even play with different toys. The thing is, as we get older, the things we all do start becoming the same types; same experiences, same societal beliefs (I mean in a very general way of course), and the toys all become the same. By the time we reach college, most of us have had the same general mindsets pounded into us. Most of us watch tv, we use cell phones or the net, we worry about transportation and money, we believe that education or a good job is important. Most of us have even had similar events in our lives, be they public events, or personal life event type things. The thing is, we all have our unique flavors, but by the time we reach college, most of us are of the same brand. Of course, this could just be a load of crap and I'm completely wrong, but it's still something to think about.

Me!
