Okay, so I know there are a lot of fetishes out there. Rule 34 after all. And while there are some that I can at least kind of understand, like bondage stuff probably being about power and control, there are some that I absolutely do not understand whatsoever. Like, what's the deal with the fetish for pregnant women? You can't frequent deviantart without seeing it in a given fandom. And I totally don't get foot fetishism. I'm not a person who is grossed out by feet or anything, but I don't in any way understand how a foot can turn someone on. Like, what? Don't even get me started on scat stuff. Just, eww. So much deviancy. It's honestly disturbing some of the things that people get off on.

Date: 2016-07-25 04:51 pm (UTC)From:So like, I imagine for some guys (it's almost always guys who have the really odd fetishes like that), it's a weird way to filter based on stuff like that.
There's also the fact of feet being often hidden (by socks and shoes) or ignored - though not as much as they used to be; many other cultures do not sexualize breasts the way we do, seeing them as "for babies to eat from", but because we hide them/emphasize them in a different way, they become sexual to our culture and many men will fixate on those in particular. The difference is that because our culture already recognizes breasts as de facto sexualized, it's not seen as a "fetish" by the mainstream.
But there have been cases in history I think where other body parts have been focused on to weird extents like that; even today there are cultures where it is scandalous for a woman to show her hair, or an ankle, and in ancient China small feet were such a zeroed-in-on beauty ideal that footbinding became common practice, similar to how corsets became the fashion in the West with the popularity of small waists and "hourglass" figures.
tldr; fetishes are weird, but mainstream culture can be just as odd?
(though...ugh. Yeah, poop is a personal squick of mine and I'm STILL not sure, beyond the fact of it being taboo in general anyway, why anybody would be turned on by that one >_>)
