So there I was, watching the Discovery Channel special on super powers and whether or not stuff like that is possible, and I just couldn't help but notice the parallels from somewhere else...

So anyway, while much of the show was just a stupid kind of recap of all the amazing crap man is doing to mimic nature and the comics, I noticed some pretty cool discoveries that should make people take notice.

One of my biggest beefs with various people has always been over accounts from the Bible that people always assume are merely fables, parables, or just exaggerations. One such thing is the ages of people presented early on, such as in Genesis with people like Adam who was said to have lived 900 some years, with successive generations living hundred of years at a time. Now, one of the aspects of human beings that was touched upon in the special was how scientists have been able to double and even triple the lifespans of flies by having them reproduce alter than normal. According to the head honcho, the body stops regenerating as well after reproducing, but if it is delayed, a certain gene changes, and as the subsequent generations pass, lifespans can significantly lengthen. The show went on to say that within about 100 generations, humans could go on to live for two or three hundred years. Another point that the show mentioned was how at a certain point, often about 80 or 90, the human body flips a switch and simply stops aging and gets no worse. With those two traits combined with lack of many toxins in the environment today, I think it can be seen that perhaps certain ages accounted in the Genesis and such aren't as far fetched as some believe. I always think it's cool when science lends credence to what I've always believed to be true.

On a lesser note, but still kind of cool, was when the show discussed the possibility of creating someone like the hulk. Now, I know that what the people we think of as giants we think of those whose pituitary glands go berserk and who become huge and too frail to do much, but I've always believed that perhaps very large people did exist who were not so frail as the famous Goliath was. Biologists spoke of how in the future with a little fiddling of the genetic material, a very tall man of 10 feet and several hundred pounds could be very possible, but if you think about, those traits must already exist in some form already in our genetics. Look at Shaq. The man is a huge guy and seems to be quite strong. I'm sure that at his size he may not live for as long as most people, but the fact remains that he's already nearly a giant. I think that a race of people with such genes already existing is not completely out of the picture, do you?

I just think that certain aspects of biblical nature that people scoff at aren't always as preposterous as thought, and I'm always delighted when information arises that proves that the possibility exists.
