I noticed something again tonight. When in groups of people, I tend to gravitate toward like older teens and like elderly. My own age bracket, give or take a decade, I just don't click as well with. I've always sort of noticed a discrepancy, but I think I may have just figured it out. Most people of college age and older, up to even like the 50s, tend to be less, well, playful. It's odd, but once a lot of people reach college/career age, they seem to lose a lot of whimsy and fun. They become more guarded and less child-like. I don't mean childish, though, as most people rarely grow out of that particular stage... I find the more elderly folk more interesting as well, as they tend to have gotten over a lot of self-consciousness and fear of how they might appear. They tend to have fewer filters and care less about what people think. Basically, they tend to be more honest. Guileless, that's one word that fits both groups well. Seeing how I do really well with children and pets too, that's probably even more proof of it.

The only difficulty is that while I tend to like the personalities of girls in their late teens/early twenties, I'm in my early 30s now, and it can't ever go anywhere, so it makes for a weird disconnect. I'm attracted, but also not. I have noticed that geek girls do tend to keep a little more of the playful spirit about them as they age, but they are of limited supply, just as I am. Finding a geek girl amongst the christian circles is even more difficult. It's trying to locate a subgroup of a subgroup. A girl skipped down the isle at work yesterday and I was absolutely floored. She's the absolutely first person outside of myself I've seen ever skip after a certain age. I wanted to cheer, or yell "one of us!"

I'm a bit older than you, but have definitely encountered similar. Most of my friends my own age are settled down, have families, whatever. While I am passionate about my career, I'm also decidedly a geek. Game, collect, what have you. And most of my friends who are younger than me... they get it, support it, we have fun with it. In my own age bracket, it's, "aren't you getting too old for that?" And then you take the next jump upwards--take my friend Caroline. She thinks I should dye my hair pink. So she's in the, old enough to do what you want category, and I hope I grow up to be like her. ;)

True! :) It was awhile before I realised that getting caught up in things was not necessarily the normal way of it, because that's what I'd always done.

Another friend of mine and I joke that games and tech on the internet "keep you relevant". Which I'm not sure is exactly it, but you can sort of see this in people who are willing to try new things (especially tech) and those who won't.

Unfortunately, my job won't allow for it. But I have done dark purple under red, and got some nice compliments over it. Trying blue highlights, later this year.

ha ha! this is awesome! and it's shedding some light on why i feel like i'm clicking with you so well! i STILL skip sometimes and i'm THIRTY-FIVE! xD and i also consider myself a geek -- the video game type, though. i'm not all hip with the electronics like i used to be. i still remember how proud of myself i was, though, back in '01 when i taught myself HTML. xD

anyway, i completely hear you on finding geeks in christian circles! i think christian guy geeks are a little more common than girl ones...out of all my girlfriends, i am the ONLY ONE who plays video games. it used to make me feel weird, but i eventually made enough connections within the gaming community that i got over it. :P

here's hoping you find a decent geeky girl who shares your faith someday. ;)

Me!
