I noticed something again tonight. When in groups of people, I tend to gravitate toward like older teens and like elderly. My own age bracket, give or take a decade, I just don't click as well with. I've always sort of noticed a discrepancy, but I think I may have just figured it out. Most people of college age and older, up to even like the 50s, tend to be less, well, playful. It's odd, but once a lot of people reach college/career age, they seem to lose a lot of whimsy and fun. They become more guarded and less child-like. I don't mean childish, though, as most people rarely grow out of that particular stage... I find the more elderly folk more interesting as well, as they tend to have gotten over a lot of self-consciousness and fear of how they might appear. They tend to have fewer filters and care less about what people think. Basically, they tend to be more honest. Guileless, that's one word that fits both groups well. Seeing how I do really well with children and pets too, that's probably even more proof of it.

The only difficulty is that while I tend to like the personalities of girls in their late teens/early twenties, I'm in my early 30s now, and it can't ever go anywhere, so it makes for a weird disconnect. I'm attracted, but also not. I have noticed that geek girls do tend to keep a little more of the playful spirit about them as they age, but they are of limited supply, just as I am. Finding a geek girl amongst the christian circles is even more difficult. It's trying to locate a subgroup of a subgroup. A girl skipped down the isle at work yesterday and I was absolutely floored. She's the absolutely first person outside of myself I've seen ever skip after a certain age. I wanted to cheer, or yell "one of us!"

True! :) It was awhile before I realised that getting caught up in things was not necessarily the normal way of it, because that's what I'd always done.

Another friend of mine and I joke that games and tech on the internet "keep you relevant". Which I'm not sure is exactly it, but you can sort of see this in people who are willing to try new things (especially tech) and those who won't.

Unfortunately, my job won't allow for it. But I have done dark purple under red, and got some nice compliments over it. Trying blue highlights, later this year.

Me!
